Dept of Agricultural & Food Engg

The dept is working to improve farming methods using modern technology. The goal is to make agriculture more precise, sustainable, and efficient in West Bengal. They focus on producing nutritious food and developing machines to help farmers.

They also organize events such as Farmer’s Training, Krishi Mela, and Agri-Expo. These events help farmers learn about new tools, farming techniques, and soil and water management. The dept receives funding from central government projects like FIM and PFDC.

Dept of Biotechnology

This dept runs training programs to help farmers and unemployed youth in West Bengal learn about growing plants using tissue culture. They focus on crops like bananas and pineapples. The training is conducted through the Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Park (STEP).

Centre for Computational and Data Sciences (CCDS)

The PARAM Shakti supercomputer was launched by the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal as part of India’s National Supercomputing Mission. This high-performance computer is a major achievement in computational research.

Computer Science and Engg

The dept has created and installed Telemedicine Systems in various hospitals. They have also made the Telemedicine Software open-source so that anyone can use it. Additionally, they have developed a Patient Management System for neonatal intensive care units (NICU), which has been implemented at SSKM Hospital, Kolkata.

Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL)

This dept provides training for judicial officers at the Judicial Academy in Kolkata. They also conduct awareness programs on intellectual property rights (IPR) at institutions like the Ordnance Board in Ichhapore and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute.

Centre of Excellence for Indian Knowledge Systems

Publications

The dept has published books and calendars on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) in 2012, 2022, and 2023, which have gained national and international recognition.

International Conference

A major conference, ‘Bharat Tirtha – II,’ was held from June 14-18, 2022. It featured expert talks, exhibitions, and discussions on Indian Knowledge Systems by well-known scholars.

Workshops and Symposiums

A National Symposium, ‘Ayurdhara – the Ayurveda Continuum,’ took place on 04 and 05 November 2022. It was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, IIT Kharagpur, and the B.C. Roy Multi-specialty Research Centre.

Dept of Ocean Engg & Naval Architecture

The dept is working on the Centre for Inland & Coastal Maritime Technology (CICMT) project. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Shipping, Govt of India. They are building India’s first shallow and deep-water seakeeping and maneuvering basin at IIT Kharagpur with a budget of Rs. 69.2 crores.

Dept of Geology and Geophysics

The dept is working on a project to study earthquakes in Kolkata. It is funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt of India. The findings are available on the Ministry’s and West Bengal Government’s websites.

Dept of Physics

Students from the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) program are teaching in colleges that have a shortage of faculty. This initiative is helping many students in West Bengal.

Dept of Humanities and Social Sciences

The dept participates in projects like ‘Technology Travels to Villages,’ which brings new technologies to rural areas. They also monitor and evaluate development projects such as MGNREGA, NFSA, and rural infrastructure initiatives. Also, they work on the Millet Mission to improve food security.

Cryogenic Engg Centre

The 28th National Symposium on Cryogenics & Superconductivity (NSCS-28) was held from October 18-21, 2022, at IIT Kharagpur. Around 300 participants attended the event. The list of participants includes researchers from ISRO and the Dept of Atomic Energy.

Dept of Civil Engg

This dept is involved in projects to promote cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Mission in rural West Bengal. They also provide technical guidance for major construction projects like Metro railways in Kolkata and the Tallah Road Over Bridge (ROB).

Dept of Mechanical Engg

Faculty members have developed online courses through NPTEL and Swayam platforms. It permits people from all states, including West Bengal, to learn. They have also created virtual labs under the National Mission on Education through ICT. It allows the students to conduct experiments online.

Dept of Mining Engg

The dept completed a project to stabilize an unstable stretch of the NH-2 Bypass Road near Dalmia. It is a part of the Raniganj Master Plan. The project is funded by ECL Sanctoria under a budget of Rs. 170.04 lakhs. It was completed in 2020.

Dept of Architecture & Regional Planning

The dept helped declare Cooch Behar a Heritage Town for the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Dept of West Bengal. They prepared a Land Use and Development Control Plan which has listed 155 properties as heritage sites.
